The film ‘Eternal Return’ is one of the latest in a range of film and TV being shot in Cardiff recently
FILMING of a new feature film ‘Eternal Return’ has been taking place in Cardiff city centre, with a cast including Kit Harington, Naomi Scott, and Simon Callow.
The film, produced by Village Roadshow Pictures, filmed nighttime scenes outside The Alchemist cocktail bar on St Mary’s Street last week, closing off large parts of the road from pedestrian use for several hours into the night.
The film was announced in May this year when it was presented to buyers at the Cannes Film Festival and remains in its early production stage. A production runner on set for the film stated that filming in Cardiff is expected to go on “until Christmas”, likely causing similar scenes of production crews and cordons in the city centre.
The cast of ‘Eternal Return’ includes Game of Thrones star Kit Harington, as well as Simon Callow, famous for films such as ‘Four Weddings and A Funeral’, and ‘Shakespeare in Love’. Eternal Return is also co-produced by lead actress Naomi Scott, who was seen shooting the nighttime scene on St Mary’s Street last week.
Multiple extras and security staff were used for the filming at The Alchemist. A spokesperson for the restaurant and cocktail bar stated that they “are not allowed to release any information on the filming that took place” but followed that we should keep our “eyes peeled for [their] feature when the film gets released.”
The film remains secretive in its early stages of production. The production companies for the film, New Name Entertainment and Village Roadshow Pictures, did not respond to queries about filming on location in Cardiff.
Also filming in Cardiff
The city centre has also hosted other production crews this week, with filming for an upcoming season of Doctor Who being held yesterday on the Millennium Walkway next to Central Square.
Scenes for the longstanding sci-fi franchise were shot inside and outside the One Central Square building, with filming crew using the lobby of the building as well as the outside staircase for a protest scene. Filming involved dozens of extras and will form part of an episode in Doctor Who’s 15th series starring new lead Ncuti Gatwa.
The filming of Doctor Who in the city centre comes just before the 60th anniversary special of the show, airing this Saturday at 6:30pm on BBC One.
