Roath tyre slashing: Man comes forward after police CCTV appeal

Residents reported more than 40 tyres being slashed in one night

POLICE say they have identified a man after they released CCTV footage as part of an investigation into car tyres being slashed.

“Following a CCTV appeal for information on criminal damage to vehicles in Moy Road, Roath, Cardiff, a 57-year-old man has contacted police and arrangements have been made for him to voluntarily attend the police station for interview,” said a spokesperson for South Wales Police.

There have been no arrests, added the spokesperson.

Last week, the police released CCTV footage from cameras located at Rhostio Speciality Coffee on Crwys Road. The cameras pointed down the public steps leading to Moy Road.

Residents suspect that the offender walked down these steps and along the road before “mindlessly” slashing more than 40 tyres on the night of February 21.

A day later, residents on Upper Kincraig Street were subjected to similar tyre slashings. Police have not yet confirmed whether both incidents are connected.

The damage left residents having to pay up to £110 each for a mobile tyre service.

Police continue their appeal for information. A spokesman said: “Anyone who has information or footage which could help identify those responsible, is asked to please contact South Wales Police quoting occurrence 2400060818.”
