Roath is getting a new venue ‘to gather, shop and hang out’

The store will create three new jobs when it opens in May

A NEW shop and dining space is coming to Roath in spring 2021.

Glory Stores will open in May at its location on Upper Kincraig Street. It will operate as a provisions store and dining space for the local community.

Owner Shaun Houcke (left), 30, says that the store will offer nostalgia but with a modern sustainable outlook. Stocking mainly artisan produce, Glory Stores will offer support to new businesses in the sector by stocking their products.

He also hopes to offer three full-time equivalent jobs for local people when the new premises opens.

Mr Houcke said: “For us, it’s about community. As local residents ourselves of 10 years and now raising a family here, we know that our corner of Roath needs a meeting place, a safe space to gather, shop, eat and hangout.”

The dining room will serve lunch and dinner offerings, using a seasonal menu which will change on a regular basis. They will also offer wine and coffee.

The shop will also be the new permanent home to Gays Who Wine, an LGBTQ+ wine club launched by Mr Houcke in 2019.

During the pandemic, the club has had to cancel their monthly wine tasting events and solely trade online. These sales have been the sole income for the business, as they are not eligible for government support schemes.

All future wine club events will be based at the new premises, which will also serve as a base for online sales.
