Tapas restaurant chain Bar 44 announced earlier today they would be hitting the Cardiff Central area with a new site.
Bar 44 currently have two restaurants, one in Penarth and one in Cowbridge.
The group was first established in 2002 after two brothers fell in love with Spanish cuisine. The restaurant group announced this morning on social media they “picked up the keys to our new city centre location”.
The restaurant’s following on Twitter and Facebook erupted at the news.
Owen Morgan, director of Bar 44, was delighted at the support they have received in the last few hours. He said: “We are so excited by the support this morning on social media, it’s great to see we have such a large following.”
Mr Morgan is happy to see that his modern take on tapas has taken shape and gained support.
He said: “Spanish food is in such a boom in the UK and we have been championing it in Penarth and Cowbridge.”
The new restaurant site is located on Westgate street next to the Urban Tap House. Mr Morgan said: “It will be great to be part of the independent scene in Cardiff that so many places such as the Tap House, Casanova and the Potted Pig are a part of.”
The new site will be under construction for the next few months and the chain aims to have their new baby up and running during summer.
Mr Morgan said: “We are excited to offer what we do to the people in town.”
Bar 44 will be hosting their Calcotada festival, a celebration of the Catalonian spring onion, next Tuesday at 7.00pm in Penarth for the second year running.
Two tables are still available for the festival.
