Cardiff v Peterborough: Bluebirds host the Posh in relegation six-pointer

Peterborough sit in the bottom three, nine points below the Bluebirds in 20th

CARDIFF City host fellow Championship strugglers Peterborough on Wednesday night.

Steve Morison’s side faced a tough trip to Anfield on Sunday, where Liverpool progressed with a convincing 3-1 win.

Promising 19-year-old Rubin Colwill bagged in front of the travelling fans, with a calm finish beyond his years.

In the Championship, two wins: away to Barnsley and at home to Nottingham Forest, mean the league table now looks far less bleak.

A win tomorrow would give Cardiff a 12-point gap from the bottom three, but a loss would bring them right back into the mix, halving that deficit.

Morison’s men will hope to widen the gap between themselves and the trap door into League One.

Despite a recent run of good form, City’s home form provides grim reading, returning just 10 points from the 39 available.

Cardiff’s clean sheet against Barnsley was just their second of their Championship campaign, and with Darren Ferguson’s Peterborough netting just 23 times this season, it’s a great opportunity for the Bluebirds to add a third.

Team news:

A huge blow for the Bluebirds sees Sean Morrison expected to miss the remainder of their Championship campaign, after just 10 minutes against Barnsley.

For the Posh, wing-back Dan Butler has not featured since December and is looking a doubt for the remainder of the season with a ligament injury.

Both teams are likely to opt for three centre backs, reflecting two often defensive and more direct natures.

Six-foot-four Aden Flint is likely to become a starting regular again, following Morrison’s injury.

The ex-Bristol City centre back provides an aerial threat both defensively and attacking corners, with eight Cardiff City goals to his name.

New signing Jordan Hugill will look to continue his fantastic start to life as a Bluebird, hoping to put a disappointing spell at West Brom behind him.

Jack Marriott has scored twice in eight appearances for Peterborough since leaving Derby County.

Alongside Clarke-Harris, who has scored five goals this season for the Posh, they may prove a more direct attacking threat for Ferguson’s men, which Flint and co will have to match.
