The team aim for another win after placing in the quarter-finals
CARDIFF Devils seek another victory in tomorrow’s away game against the Dundee Stars, after already securing their place in the Premier Sports play-offs.
The Devils bounced back with a win last Sunday, in front of a sold-out arena, beating Glasgow Clan 3-1.
This means they will join Belfast Giants and Sheffield Steelers in the quarter-finals come April; although, their final place in the league is still skating on thin ice.
A spokesperson for the Devils said: “Lately we’ve been on a great run of form at home, we’ve been winning a lot in our own building. We just need to try and do that away from home as well.
“It’s a tricky run into the end of the regular season now, we know we need results to go our way to try and go for the title. But, we also just need to take things game by game, and control what we can control ourselves and not look too far ahead.”
He added: “It’s great to have our play-off spot locked up, but we’re not concerning ourselves with that just yet, we’ve got a lot of key league games coming up, and the Challenge Cup semi-final, so we’re just focussed on those games right now.”
On Wednesday night, Cardiff will travel up to Dundee to face the Stars who have been their bogey team over the past few seasons.
The Devils last played the Stars at the Dundee Ice Arena in February 2022, and lost 3-2.
The Dundee team are on a three-game unbeaten run and seek another win against the Devils.
Cardiff are in third place in the Elite League standings, 24 points ahead of Dundee, who are in seventh.
After two successive defeats in the Elite League, the Devils showed they are a force to be reckoned with on their home turf.
The Devils’ Matt Register scored the game’s opening goal at 35:34, after a goalless first period. Brodie Reid brought it home, rounding off the win for Cardiff with 31 seconds to spare.
Ahead of the showdown, fans feel that this is a must-win game for the Devils.
“Dundee have the second worst defence in the league but they’ve had some great results against top sides in the last few months – they’ve been banging them in,” said season ticket holder, Gareth Howells, from Port Talbot.
He added: “Our last two away games have been disappointing, but we’ve proved against Sheffield that we can beat anyone away from home.
“I predict 3-2 win for the Devils.”
A Reddit user named benkvlt said to The Cardiffian: “Their away performance has been poor the last couple of weeks, but I think the Devils will turn it around in the closing weeks. Saying that, Dundee have beaten Sheffield twice this weekend in OT [overtime] so can’t underestimate them.
“Omar Pacha is a good coach and the team seems hot at the moment. Stars are hoping for a playoff spot too, they’ve all but secured it. I think it will be a close game, but I think the Devils will want it more.
“I predict a 4-2 win in favour of the Devils.”
