Splash of wild life on Crwys Road: animals take over the streets

An exotic feel and a vibrant splash of colour has spread across Crwys Road this week. Cardiff Council has commissioned a series of animal paintings to adorn the brick wall above the railway tracks.
The wall paintings, named The False Evolution of Man, were created by community artists Wendy Bridges and Stuart Reeve. Miss Bridges, 32, said: “People have decided the place needed brightening up, and the psychedelic colours of these animals certainly do that.
“The paintings were commissioned by the council but with no real underlying theme. We were basically given as much creative freedom as we liked, and with this free-reign we came up with the false evolution of man concept”.
Of the array of animals, a patchwork anteater takes centre stage, showcasing bright shades of blues, purples and green. Alongside, a cartoon-like kangaroo appears to be followed by a prehistoric dinosaur. Miss Bridges said: “Small projects like this are really fun to do and don’t really take long. Hopefully it will bring a smile to people’s faces.”
