WATCH: Litter pickers on the Taff smash world record for river clean up

More than 1,000 volunteers from Cardiff to Brecon took part in the world record attempt

A NEW world record was set by volunteers after 1,327 people joined a litter pick to clean up the River Taff.

The previous record of 329 was set in February on the River Ganges in India.

The event on Friday, March 21, was organised by adventurer and activist Kate Strong, who teamed up with scientists, sports teams and charities to bring the event to life.

Kate wanted to find out whether a world record attempt could inspire a new generation to care more about the local environment.

With several streams flowing into the Taff, and frequent flood events, rubbish and single-use plastics can accumulate quickly, with much of it ending up in Cardiff Bay.
