Cardiff Council and the South Wales Police continue their bid to moderate truancy levels in the Cardiff area.
Several sweeps have been organised, whereby both the Council and Police will literally search a particular area for pupils who are bunking off school.
Focus will be attached to areas such as Ely, Llanedeym, and Rumney.
Last year, the sweep discovered 197 pupils, all of whom had taken it upon themselves to take a day off school.
The education welfare officer, Sian Cadwalladr, revealed that “20 parents thought their kids were on the way to school,” when in reality, they were skiving. The sweep definitely “registered an impact,” continued Cadwalladr.
Let’s hope it does the same this year around, with the next sweep taking place in Cardiff city centre, on Wednesday 12 December.
