Soul and Solidarity raised money for both Calais and Cardiff-based refugee charities.
Cardiff volunteers organised a 12-hour musical fundraiser on Saturday in response to the international refugee crisis.
Soul and Solidarity united local DJs and spoken word artists at 10 Feet Tall. Proceedings were split between Caravans for Calais and Cardif-based support charities.
Event organiser Clare Young spoke about the importance of local grassroots involvement when tackling a global humanitarian crisis, saying: “Governments focus is on austerity and anti-immigration measures, not humanitarian issues, so all that’s left is to respond in our many different ways, pool our resources and represent the positive people of the world.”
Caravans for Calais helps to provide shelter for refugees and volunteers within the French camp, as well as converting caravans into kitchens and make-shift first aid zones. The local charity benefactors, Oasis Cardiff and Trinity Centre Cardiff, focus on integrating refugees into the local Cardiff community; providing advice, classes and support.
The line-up included a mixture of soul, funk and house music, with DJ sets from The Organ Grinder, James Morgan-Rees and Clayton Reid
