Mook hits fundraising target for kidney operation

REMEMBER Mook? The sick seven year old has raised enough money for an operation to fix her painful kidney condition four months earlier than the NHS could offer – after a campaign supported by the Cardiffian.

Single mum Christine Cooper, 38, started a campaign to help her little girl get a much needed operation after the NHS told her daughter she would have to wait nearly six months for an operation to relieve her pain.
LibertyMay, known to us all as Mook, has a kidney condition called vesicoureteral reflux which leaves her in constant pain, and still wearing pull-up nappies. Cousin Donna Cooper and family raised £800 with a sponsored climb of Pen y Fan – the highest peak in south Wales – and the campaign recently received an anonymous £500 donation.

The Nine Giants pub in Llanishen has even pledged the takings of their Easter fun day to Mook’s cause. Thanks to this and the fundraising efforts of Cardiffian readers, Mook will have surgery to fix her condition on April 9 at the Hensol Hospital in the Vale of Glamorgan. Christine, of St Mellons, Cardiff, said: “It’s awesome – a real relief. Hopefully they can fix her and we can get on with living a normal life.

“She thinks she is a princess with all the attention she has had,” said Christine. “She is really just looking forward to not wearing nappies ever again, and finally having that nappy-free sleepover with her friends.”
