LLANISHEN residents who enjoyed the fireworks display at Court Field at the weekend can rest easy — their lease on the open space will be renewed for another 25 years.
Residents believe it is the only field in the city that is owned by Cardiff council but controlled by residents. The lease, which allows them to control how the field is used, was due to have run out next May.
Court Field is used by community groups in the area, including Llanishen and Lisvane Scout Club, which hosted this year’s firework display.
Chairman of the Court Field Action Group, Gary Hunt, who helped campaign to protect the field, said: “The fireworks are a great example of how the field can be used. Without the lease to protect it, community events like this could be under threat from alternative council plans.”

Council leader Phil Bale support the group. He estimated that about 2,000 people went to the Llanishen and Lisvane fireworks display.
“This is the busiest I’ve ever seen it! It’s such a great atmosphere and a brilliant night for the whole family,” he said.
Rachel Williams, 43, from Llanishen, said: “It’s a fantastic event, we come every year. It has become a tradition!”
Residents will meet the council at Court Field in the next couple of weeks to renew the lease.
