Neil Harris hopes that spirit will carry Bluebirds through against Huddersfield tonight
THE Bluebirds are hoping the buzz from Saturday’s 4-0 victory over Luton will lift them when they take on Huddersfield tonight.
Cardiff have been unable to build on the promise of last season, when they finished fifth in the Championship and reached the play-offs. But the Luton win has slightly reduced the pressure on manager Neil Harris.
Currently, the Bluebirds sit 14th in the table on 17 points, just below Huddersfield in 13th.
Harris made three changes from the lacklustre defeat to Coventry for the Luton game, using a 4-4-2 formation instead of a 4-2-3-1, and it appears likely that he will stick with that team tonight.
He hopes the Luton result will help the team regain some of the momentum he built during his first season in charge.
Speaking ahead of the game, he said: “As you can imagine, players coming in yesterday were extremely pleased with their performance individually and collectively, so there was a right buzz about the place.”
“The players reacted superbly on Saturday against Luton, but it was one game.
“I’m not taking away from that positivity but that’s what I want to see from the players consistently. That’s the challenge: finding that display consistently.
“We don’t want to be seven points away from the play-offs as we are at present. We want to be right in the mix, but we haven’t earned the right so far this season to be in that group.
“So, we need some consistency and we need some more results to build momentum. We’ll take it one game at a time and we’ll need to be at our best to beat Huddersfield Town.”
Cardiff have now won two of their last three home games, after failing to win any of their first four home games this season.
Last season, they won both of their league fixtures against Huddersfield, with the most recent contest between the clubs in February ending in a 3-0 victory to Cardiff.
Huddersfield have conceded 19 goals in the league this season, the sixth worst record in the league.
