Transport for Wales upgrade offers a full bilingual service and other extras
TRANSPORT for Wales has launched an upgraded app with new capabilities, but a couple of teething problems along the way.
The smartphone app has features such as a bilingual service for English and Welsh speakers.
‘’The app’s features are all about making it easier and quicker for customers to access up-to-date information and buy tickets quickly and easily,” said TfW.
‘’This latest step now adds in a bilingual service for the first time and makes it easier to use its key features.’’
This new application replaces the previous one which will be retired after customers have used up their last stored tickets.
‘’Tickets stored on the old app will be available to use until Sunday, 6 March 2022. All website customers with an existing account will also need to open a new account,’’ read the statement.
Some practical issues have occurred in the first week.
‘’To be honest I don’t use the app that much at the moment as it’s not giving a Railcard discount on all tickets such as PlusBus,’’ said app user Jack Newell, 25, from Yorkshire.
As well as this, issues have been found with the price of postage fees which are different from the old version of the app.
Mr Newell said: ‘’There is now charging for postage which was not the case on the old one which was free.’’
TfW hopes the app will make passengers navigate the introduction of the £750 million Metro system, which should make journey times quicker across the Core Valleys Lines north of Cardiff Queens Street.
It is already working to roll out an integrated public transport app.
‘’This will provide journey information and tickets for rail and bus services across Wales,’’ said TfW IT and digital services director, Dave Williams.
