Radnor Primary School helps launch Sustrans bike bus toolkit

It allows parents and pupils across the UK to leave the car at home

Active travel charity, Sustrans Cymru, has launched a toolkit to allow schools across Wales to start a bike bus, following the success of Canton school’s #RidetoRadnor initiative.

Since July 2022, Radnor Primary School has run a bike bus on the last Friday of each month, and ran a special bike bus on March 31, to celebrate the last day of Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel campaign along with the launch of Sustrans FRideDAYS Bike Bus.

“The toolkit is a resource that’s aimed to support and encourage parents, community groups and schools to set up bike buses,” said Hamish Belding, a member of the Sustrans team.

“One of the tips is just get together as a small group and ride together as a group to school.”

Radnor Primary School was one of 227 schools across Wales to sign up to the Big Walk and Wheel.

“We are using some of what we’ve learnt whilst working with Radnor, to try and share and encourage schools across the UK to start bike buses. We’re trying to get at least ten schools across the UK to start a bike bus,” said Mr Belding.
