Steps cancel Cardiff show after second member tests positive for COVID-19
POP group Steps were forced to postpone their Cardiff concert at the Motorpoint Arena hours before the show because one member tested positive for COVID-19.
The Official Steps Twitter account announced that Cardiff’s date for the What The Future Holds tour will be postponed due to band member Lee Latchford-Evans testing positive for the virus.
According to the UK government guidelines, Latchford-Evans will have to isolate for 10 days. This means that he will miss the final three dates of the tour, of which Cardiff was the first.
This is the second Covid case the band has had, with Faye Tozer testing positive earlier this month
As Faye Tozer is due to return from her 10-day isolation period, and members of the band continue to test negative for the virus, the tour will continue.
The band released a statement on their Twitter account that said: “We are sorry to report that in disappointing news, Lee has this morning tested positive for COVID-19 which means he is now isolating and will unfortunately be absent for the remainder of our What The Future Holds Tour.
“We intend to carry on with the remaining three shows while the rest of us test negative. In good news, in line with government guidelines, Faye returns from her isolation today and will be performing at the O2 tonight.
Steps Superfan, Jay Page, 36 from Cardiff City Centre said: “It’s sad but 100% understandable that Steps had to cancel the show. Steps and the crew have to look after each other and any real fan will understand this. I hope he gets well soon and I’ll see them in the summer.”
Mark Richards, 50 from Bridgend said: “The concert being cancelled is disappointing. we bought the tickets over a year ago and have been looking forward to it, but we completely understand that the health of everyone involved in the tour and of the concert-goers is the top priority.
“I think that we need to be mindful when we book tickets at this time that the possibility of the event being postponed or even cancelled is real. It’s no one’s fault and I’m sure Steps, the dancers and everyone behind the scenes are as disappointed as the fans.
“I think venues need to ensure that Covid passports are checked and anyone without one should not be allowed in. We’ve got to get on with things and if it means wearing a mask and showing we’ve been vaccinated, so be it.”
